Mobile Phones in China
In April 26, the population of mobile phone users in China came to 898 million, according to a report from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which will make China the first country that own 900 million mobile phone users.
The numbers objectively show the popularity of mobile phones in China. To explain this phenomenon, the following items are evident. Firstly, mobile phones are very useful and convenient communication tools. People can get in touch with each other while they are walking or when an emergency occurs. Secondly, it has become a fashionable way to own a popular product among many youths. Many mobile phone manufacturers and dealers employ famous stars to propagandize their products. As a result, the enormous number of mobile phone users can partly attributed to these famous propagandists. Tertiary, the advancement of science and technology, to a large extent, has contributed to the prevalence of mobile phones. The prices of mobile phones are dropping so fast that large numbers of mobile phones are being used in some remote places of China where there are not even fixed-line telephones. New technologies, such as WAP and 3G, enable users to surf on the Internet or make video calls. Therefore, these new functions attract more and more people to use mobile phones.
However, the mobile phone can also be a nuisance. The ring of a mobile phone can be a sound pollutant in some public places e. g. restaurants and libraries. Besides, the mobile phone’s harmful radiation and the crimes such as SMS scam concern their users very much. In spite of all these disadvantages, we have to accept the fact that the number of mobile phone users is still increasing steadily and we are stepping into an age of mobile phones.
